Date 60 - Better Than The Best Ever!

Date: Saturday, October 13, 2012
Type: Out of Town, Friends, Fun
Cost: $$
Planned By: Both

Adam and I attended our second OU homecoming as alumni. Its hard to believe that we have been out of college long enough to go to our second homecoming. We are always looking forward to a trip to OU, and homecoming is the best because most of our friends plan to go, too! The theme this year was Better Than the Best Ever in honor of the late Ron Socciarelli, a past conductor of the Marching 110.

We didn't get in until 1AM on Saturday. We decided to stay with our grad student friend Laura who also hosted Lauren, Rachel and her fiance Sean. We got to Laura's apartment, talked for a little while and went to bed.

On Saturday we all woke up before our alarms that were set for 6AM. We had Sausage Queso dip and Bellini's for breakfast. After we all showered and got ready we called a cab. I have never taken an Athens cab, but we didn't want to walk 2.5 miles up town. We were pleasantly surprised when the limo cab picked us up!! It was very very very exciting for all of us because it was one of the things we have all wanted to do, ride the Athens limo cab!

When we got uptown we went to Pigskin and met up with Penny. Somehow we got a booth and were able to start celebrating pretty quickly. Next, we dropped off our stuff at Anna's (Laura's sister who lives in their old apartment above Pigskin). We also took some great pictures of all of us in our awesome homemade homecoming shirts!
We got down to Union St. a few minutes before the parade started. It was much less crowded due to the route change this year. We were very enthusiastic the entire time trying to get candy and other free stuff. We got a bag full of candy, a pair of sunglasses, 5 drink coozies, a baseball, a plastic ball, and a plastic football. I'd say we did a pretty good job! My proudest moment was catching that baseball one handed like Dottie in A League of Their Own. We enjoyed watching the 110, Alumni band, and the Sigma Kappa banner (which had a band member playing a trumpet (!) doing a rare-back on it.. at least that's what it was supposed to be). The Sigma Kappa homecoming sweatshirts also have a trumpet (!) on the back, and I will keep begging my little Kelsey (who was homecoming chair) for one until I receive it. :)

After the parade we went back to the bars. We spent most of our time at Pawpurrs. Had a few black outs, took over the stage, danced, had lots of fun. Then we went to Broneys. We didn't get champagne slushies because we had too much champagne for breakfast, they were extremely busy and of course their machine was down. Then we went to the Sigma Kappa Alumnae Brunch where they had a waffle bar! It was pretty good and we had fun looking at the changes in the house. Then we went back to Pigskin and got ready for the game.

Even though the Bobcats are undefeated and an awesome football team we decided to show up during the second quarter just in time for half time to watch the 110 and alumni perform. They were amazing as usual. They played a bunch of songs we also played in high school including MacArthur Park, Red Light and Long Train. The entire band did the Long Train dance break which was awesome considering its usually only the Tubas! It would have been nice to stay for the rest of the game and post game to see all the best songs, but we were tired and wanted to take a nap. That's what we get for waking up at 6AM. Maybe next year. Good news though the killed Akron and are still undefeated! :)

After our naps we got O'Betty's for dinner. Yummmmmm! We hung around in the apartment for awhile playing games and watching TV. Then Adam and I went to see JT at Lucky's. Its been about a year since we've seen him so it was nice catching up. Then we met up with the rest of our friends back at Pigskin (yes, this was the third time) for almost the rest of the night. Towards the end of the night we decided we had to go see Tim & Liisa at the Crystal and Megan at Broneys. It was so nice seeing all of them, and it makes me wish we could see them more. (Everyone should move to Cleveland!!) Before we went back to Laura's we had one last stop: Good Fella's! It is very unlikely Adam will ever go to Athens and not get Good Fella's Pizza. I even had a piece this time, which is surprising because I think Good Fella's is gross. Then we went back to Laura's and went to sleep.

The next day we got up and got ready to leave. We went up town and I got my first alumni t-shirt! Adam got a new shirt and a coffee travel mug. The drive home wasn't too bad especially towards the end when the Browns won their first game of the season against the Bengals! Too bad we arrived downtown only minutes after the game ended and got stuck in traffic.

Overall, homecoming was a success, and I can't wait for next year!

Date 59 - Don't Look Under The Bed!

Date: Monday, October 8, 2012
Type: Fun, Surprise, At-Home
Cost: $
Planned By: Dani

It's October! I had this great idea for an early Halloween-ish date. One of my favorite Disney Channel original movies was Don't Look Under the Bed. I recently realized that you can find anything on Youtube. So I searched and after about a second I found a perfect version of Don't Look Under the Bed.

I had Monday off for Columbus Day, and Adam didn't. I chose to give him some clues that went along with the movie throughout the day instead of outright telling him what the date was. There were four separate clues.

1. Dogs are on the roof! Every Sunday when the Browns play Adam takes a Halftime Naptime nap. I took advantage of this. I went down to our cars and took pictures of our stuffed puppies on our car roofs. I hurried back up and made a flyer. I put it in an envelope and put it in Adam's car for him to find before work the next day. I had to be quick, but he never noticed I was gone!

2. Someone keeps putting the letter B on everything. I make Adam's lunch every morning so I put a sticky note with the letter B on this inside of his sandwich container.
3. The school pool is filled with jello. I made jello and put a little sign on it saying school pool. I sent a picture text of it to Adam's phone in the afternoon. (Sadly, he figured it out after this clue, but I had him stumped for most of the day!)
4. You should check under the bed! When Adam got home from work I told him there was something under the bed, and he needed to check it out. I put apple cider, Reese's, Starbursts, and a bunch of fun $1 Halloween items I found.
After all the clues were out and Adam knew what we were going to watch we hooked the computer up to the TV, got cozy on the couch, got our candy and watching Disney Channel's Original Movie Don't Look Under the Bed! After all these years it was still a cute movie, but didn't scare me as much. I think it is one of Disney Channel's better movies with a pretty good concept.

Adam had a great time with the clues and trying to figure it out all day, and it was really fun to keep him guessing! I love surprise dates maybe someday Adam will plan one for me. Ha.

Date 58 - Roller Coaster Of Love.

Date: Saturday, September 29, 2012
Type: Fun, Out of Town
Cost: $$$
Planned By: Adam

Last weekend we went to Cedar Point for one of their Halloweekends. We did this last year as a double date with Laura and Sean. This year Adam and I went alone. Adam decided Friday afternoon that we were going to be spontaneous as go to Cedar Point the next day so we didn't have time to find anyone to go with us. We've been to many amusement parks together, but this is the first time it was just the two of us!
We got there right when the park opened. We had decided to go straight for the Maverick, but noticed the line for the Top Thrill Dragster was short so we went there first. There's nothing like a 427 foot 120 mph adrenalin boost in the morning. Woo. Scares me every time! Next, we rode the Maverick, Mean Streak, Magnum, Corkscrew, Power Tower and the Iron Dragon. Then we took the Sky Ride over to the front of the park. During our ride we got to watch the Halloweekend Midway Parade from the sky. It was really cute with monsters and floats and a marching band! When we got to the other side we rode the Raptor and Blue Streak! The new Wind Seeker was closed :(

After that we spent most of the rest of the evening touring the haunted houses and scare zones. We went through all four haunted houses and each had a pretty long line. The Lake Erie Estate was the scariest. The other three kept me on edge, but they weren't too frightening. We went through most of the outside scare zones. We skipped the Corn Stalkers and Blood on the Bayou because we did them last year and we were running out of time. Cedar Point decorated for Halloween is awesome everyone in the area should try to go because it really adds to the fun factor of the park.

I know you're all wondering about the Millennium Force. We took a break from rides so that we could ride it at night. Also it always has a long line so we wanted to see if it would be shorter once the haunted houses opened, and we were right. The sign said 1 hour 45 minutes, but it was only an hour! It was so much fun, and definitely one of the top two rides at Cedar Point (The Maverick being the other). And if you are a person like me who's eyes "grey out" from the G-forces.. I read a tip right before riding the Millennium to flex your abs right before the hill to keep the blood closer to your head, and it worked!!! It was great and made the ride so much more enjoyable than usual. Yay for having a smartphone in a roller coaster line!

After we were done riding all the rides we wanted to we finished up the haunted attractions and went home. It is so nice only being an hour from Cedar Point, and it makes me wonder if I don't appreciate it enough. I do though. I very much appreciate being one hour away from the world's best amusement park, and I can't wait for the new roller coaster next year!
